About Summer Institute

Summer Institute

This week-long workshop is effectively a "crash course" in environment and health that covers topics including environmental health risk assessment, the social psychology of risk, land use and ecosystems services approaches, environment and health policies, case study approaches, etc. Participants are introduced to the interdisciplinary, problem-oriented approach and work together in teams on specific problems.

Thirty or more participants attend each year along with 10 senior resource people. The intensive learning and interactions that take place at the Institute have been key to forging strong bonds within the network and have nurtured a committed core group of EH pioneers. 250 people have attended the institute over six years, with a number attending twice.

The Institute is linked to the small grants application process with applicants receiving feedback on proposed projects.
