Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility

Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility is a professional development module at the Centre for Environment and Sustainability at University of Surrey.

This module covers business approaches to reconcile environmental constraints and social expectations under the business paradigm.

This module focuses on the way in which businesses have approached the diverse and increasingly complex agenda of corporate sustainability management, evaluating the degree of influence these issues have on business activities and asking complex questions on the motives, design and efficacy of such initiatives.

It offers comprehensive grounding in sustainability management issues including strategies, accountability, policies, auditing and reporting. Given appropriate tools and an exposure to international and local environmental and ethical issues, students will use real-life business industry situations to formulate environmental and sustainability management policy.

Environmental Auditing and Management Systems

Environmental Auditing and Management Systems module is a professional development module at Centre for Environment and Sustainability at University of Surrey.

This module will introduce environmental auditing and environmental management systems in a practical, informative and useful manner.

The dominant approach towards identifying, documenting and minimising the effects an organisation has on its specific and the wider (physical and to some extent social) environment is originated in the Total Quality Management (TQM) Movement.

Auditing as the systematic process of performance evaluation against pre-set standards, as well the need to embed all activities into a contrived system of managing activities are at the heart of environmental management.

They are also at the heart of this module, which has the purpose of introducing environmental auditing and environmental management systems in a practical, informative and useful manner. This module will explore the dominant, practical and topical concerns, surrounding environmental auditing and environmental management systems.

This module is one of the components required for the Associate Membership of IEMA.

Application open. Module dates: 17 - 21 Feb 2020.
